"Irish Gold" - Andrew Greeley
Andrew Greeley is a Catholic priest, after hours of dealing with the writing of bestsellers. Once popular in the 80's half Polish was riveted to the radio, when read in single example of his "cardinal sins."
"Irish Gold" has nothing in common with the state minister (though in the third plan shows "probarszcz" George and the two "sakramenckich Irish bishops'). This is an unusual romantic comedy combined with the resolution of historical mysteries.
The story begins in the late 1980's, when Dermot Coyne, an American of Irish descent, decided to visit the country ancestors, who left his grandparents in a panic during the Irish Civil War that never again never to return. Dermot
of boredom trying to figure out why this happened, but soon cease to be bored, as reigniting the old case he manages to attract the attention of the Irish security forces, British intelligence, and to have an unspecified secret society.
rate appears high because the fate of his grandparents are related to answers to the riddle of death Michael Collins (Irish leader, who died in very suspicious circumstances in 1922) as well as the history of the "Irish Gold" - a secret fund of Irish rebels lost more or less at the time.
Dermot, however, has a powerful ally in his quest to Nuala McGrail-, irlandzkaą goddess of Connemara and starving student in one. Between the two quickly begin a story, moreover, in excess of complicating any puzzles of the past.
surprisingly cool book. We have a lot of humor, especially language. I do not know as possible, but in spite of the Polish translation of the author and the translator was able to simulate the Irish language. Love story although told in a light tone, includes accents suddenly serious. None of the characters, for example, does not want to hurt or exploit another person (which, as a closer look, it's standard in a typical chick-lit.) Is also itself a historical mystery and a large portion of the history of Ireland. somehow surprisingly, it remind me of the Polish history. The country was colonized for many years by a stronger neighbor (thankfully only one). Sentences of Irish anarchy that makes the Irish are incapable of self-government, and in need of a stronger neighbor, strongly reminded me of the arguments of the invaders, the We still returned. Secret society, which at the time the action takes place the book union seeks to Ireland and the UK. Britain in the European Union, and solutions in this way the problem of Ulster - hmmm, if such votes do not appear when there is the independence of the Basque Country, Catalonia, and recently ... Silesia.
icing on the cake is the death of Michael Collins - of course in the "accident." Similar "accidents" in Polish history is also somewhat finds. To not look modern analogy - even the death of General Sikorski.
were also interesting differences. Ranks of the Irish rebels were heavily infiltrated by the British agency. On the subject of who the Polish fighters for independence he took money from abroad Polish books are silent for now:). Finally
longer digression: the book the author goes through great love for Ireland, its people, landscapes, language, Irish sense of humor. And besides that also a lot of positive energy.
I recommend this book, is another good position for the blues:).
"Irish Gold" is the first part of the cycle, only translated into Polish. We are happy to sięgnęłabym after another, perhaps even in English, and is therefore to compare the unusual language, spoken by the characters.
